In 1937 the owners of a small garment factory in Stockport, Cheshire, brothers John and Isaac Miller realised their dream of producing and designing a revolutionary new jacket. A year later John Miller is given permission to use the Fraser Tartan, now an iconic feature of the classic G9. Even in this early stage the quality of the designs and production was obvious described in 1940 as "Britains Best Rainwear" by Picture Post.
In the 1950's Isaac Miller helped the Baracuta brand expand across the Atlantic to the U.S.A and Canadian markets. Just a few years later the jacket was popularised when it was worn by Elvis Presley in the film 'King Creole.' Baracuta was then stocked in more retailers in the U.S including the legendary Paul Stuart store in New York City. The appperance of the G9 in popular culture continued with Steve McQueen snapped wearing his G9 for the cover of Life Magazine in 1963. Then, a year later, Ryan 0'Neil played the character Rodney Harrington in the popular sixties soap opera Peyton Place, wearing the G9. From this the jacket was dubbed 'The Harrington.' Continued exposure of this iconic jacket was seen by Frank Sinatra, the 1966 England World Cup squad, Arnold Palmer with the launch of his golf collection all sporting G9's.
