"Commonplace" was debuted by the Japanese fashion specialist Eisuke Maruyama in 2005. All aspects of the company including conceptual work, design application, fabric, as well as manufacturing are done in Ibara, Okayama, Japan. The Commonplace brand prides itself on providing superior fabrics, timeless craftsmanship, exceptional design, and attention to detail. Our high quality apparel such as our popular selvedge jeans, double-dyed products, and other accessories are made by experienced craftsmen in selected factories in Okayama.;

Commonplace high quality apparel works well in a variety of situations. From daily life to casual settings as well as for formal events. The exceptional dark color of our selvedge denim sits in a class by itself. They look elegant with a jacket at work, but can be worn casually with a T-shirt on slow paced weekends. Mr. Maruyama is confident that these special and sophisticated designs will never bore you, even if worn everyday, so it was with a sense of irony that he named his brand "Commonplace". His plan is that these jeans will become "common" among sophisticated people in the years to come.

CommonPlace founder, Eisuke Maruyama, was born and grew up in Ibara. After he finished his studies in Kyoto, he started work in Ibara, dividing his time between local sewing factories and OEM business for several brands located mainly in Tokyo. In 1999, he started his own business: providing his designs to brands in Europe and Japan and controlling production in Ibara, selecting fabrics, making patterns, sewing and finishing. He is not just a designer; he is also an experienced craftsman who can actually make clothes. He specializes in garment double dye works and gets his inspiration from many sources when creating new colors which are beautiful and inimitable. In 2005 he registered COMMONPLACE in Japan, and in 2007 he debuted COMMONPLACE at several fashion tradeshows in U.S.A and Europe.
