Luke 1977, an independently owned design focused UK men’s designer label has a tight distribution policy and therefore is only available from a selective stores. Luke 1977 is known for its edgy, detailed and practical contemporary menswear.

History: Luke Roper (co-founder of Luke 1977) was born in Walsall, and the son of a talented wedding dressmaker. At the age of twelve Luke was already adept at using a sewing machine and  soon became interested in the whole process behind producing garments. At fifteen years old, Luke was making shirts for his friends. After leaving school Luke enrolled in a fashion and textiles course at his local Walsall College and, in 1997,  got a place at Central Saint Martin’s College of Fashion in London where he began a 3-year specialist menswear design degree.

During the 3 years that Luke was doing his degree he got more involved in traditional tailoring techniques which inspired him to begin making suits. Having continued making clothes for his friends, there was now a real following for Lukes clothing creations from a variety of people. After his graduation Luke took the position of junior designer with a major brand. The idea was that Luke1977 would develop his skills and have a deeper understanding of the textiles industry. In May 2001, after only 6 months Luke joined forces with his best friends Simon & Deborah Poole and the Luke 1977 clothing label was created. Last year Luke Roper clothing range was born, this recent range by Luke clothing has all the components of a modern lad, gentlemen, a working hero and a bit of a rogue. The edgy detailed practical interpretation on a contemporary menswear have made Luke 1977 firmly iconic as a brand found in any top clothing store here in the UK.
