Coming Soon - Pepe 73
In 1973 London designer Nitin Shah and his brothers Arun and Milan started running a stall at Portobello Market customising and designing jeans with quality fabrics, good design and different finishes. Just a few years later they had expanded and had four stalls in the market and opened their first boutique in Kings Road which was later called Pepe Jeans boutique. Soon after they opened up a second boutique at Carnaby Street and opened a 25,000 ft warehouse.
In 1980 Pepe Jeans was rivalling the major US labels in the market and became the most successful British denim brand ever. In 1984 Pepe opened a new office and showroom in L.A. This exponential growth in the 80s continued when in 86 Pepe hired Bruce Weber to shoot their biggest advert campaign in their history and cinema and television exposure soon followed.
In the 90s the brand continued its expansion throughout mainland Europe, becoming popular in big European markets like France, Italy, Germany and Spain. By the turn of the Millennium Pepe Jeans had firmly established itself as one of the biggest brands in the denim market. In the last few years they have continued their expansion by venturing into the emerging Asian and Latin American markets.
